Frying Pans

Posted by walle on April 28, 2012

Just about every household has at least one frying pan. This is a traditional cooking item that has helped many families create any number of meals throughout recent history. This accessible necessity of the culinary world has been around for quite some time. Even people who claim that they can’t boil water have delved into creating interesting dishes by using a frying pan.

However, the cooking item is not quite as simple as it may seem. There are different types of this frying pan and they each require different care when in use and when it is being cleaned. Many cooks have received hard-earned lessons by unwittingly mistreating the instrument.

Stainless Microwave

Mistreating your frying pan can wreak havoc on the meal and on the cooking instrument itself but the mistreatment is oftendone out of lack of knowledge rather than lack of caring. I speak of this with seemingly unrealistic passion but I was a cook who learned a hard lesson. I thought that I was doing something very nice.

The frying pan can be made out of a number of different materials. Each material requires different care and maintenance. What works for one kind of frying pan will not work for another. It is very important to follow some general rules for the various types of frying pans that you own.

One of the most attractive materials that can be found in cookware is copper. A copper frying pan is able to withstand some punishment and it is an excellent conductor of heat. Many people like to display their copper cookware by hanging them on a rack. However, the copper tends to tarnish so beprepared to polish them every so often.

Aluminum and stainless steel are durable metals that also conduct heat very well. A frying pan made out of either of these metals will require little maintenance. I love these metals for cookware but I have noticed that food tends to stick to the surface quite easily if not properly greased.

Manufacturers created a non-stick coating known as Teflon to address sticking problems. While this coating does wonders for the sticking situation, it can peel after extended use. Peeling often occurs as a result of overheating. This is not a favorite of mine.

3 Characteristics of a Great Chef

Posted by walle on April 26, 2012

If creating gourmet meals in your kitchen is a relaxing and fun endeavor, then you may have the 3 characteristics of a great chef. Like everything else worth having, becoming a great chef is not an instantaneous occurrence. You did not stop riding a bike because you fell off one time. In your home or professionally, great chefs study the art of cooking over a long period of time constantly upgrading their skills toward perfection. This article will describe the 3 characteristics that separate a good chef from a great chef.

The ability to multi-task is a very good trait in being a good chef. Most days will require you to be able to juggle several different tasks both physically and in managing people. The kitchen is a fast paced environment. Swerving and dodging are goodtraits to have in a kitchen. You are going to be a fast thinker. You will make decisions on the fly and worry about some tasks later. When the oven is not maintaining temperature or the food did not arrive on time, what is your plan?

For everything to run smoothly, your kitchen and restaurant will require you to make instant decisions. This is where experience comes into play. For those who have kids at home, this can seem like a regular day in paradise. You must be able to tune out distractions, noises and employee bickering to stay the course so you can deliver the course.

Stainless Oven

Successful chefs are a jack of all trades in the kitchen. When something goes wrong, they will have to drop what they are doing and lend a hand to fix the problems. This will put your other dutiesbehind. So, delegation to trusted employees is a must. To delegate though, you must have the trust and respect of the staff in the kitchen. A true leader will inspire and motivate even the most challenged, hung over worker on a Monday morning.

Not only is the skill set needed for food preparation but the mechanical systems and equipment must be maintained and optimized. You will not do the work of fixing broken parts but you need to understand how the systems go together to achieve the final results that can be based on temperature and humidity.

Can You Turn a Steel Building Into a Residential Home?

Posted by walle on April 24, 2012

One would look at a stainless steel building and not believe that it could be turned into a residential home. There are many components that stainless steel buildings lack that homes must have, I know the work involved may be rather extensive. However, stainless steel buildings tend to be less expensive than the average home and may even still cost less if converted into a residential home.

But can it be done?

Stainless Oven

Yes it can. Believe it or not, a group of architects in 2006 actually turned steel shipping containers into homes. Because of this innovative accomplishment, they proved that such a feat is possible and have opened the doors to more steel structures being converted into residential homes. It first started with the military using steelstorage containers as offices, showers, and bunkers.

It is true that these structures are lacking many of the components required for a home such as wood, but many of these buildings actually have teak floors and are insulated. The lack of components hasn’t hindered designers from turning steel buildings into residential designs since 1982. However, it isn’t something we see often, but the point is that it is actually being done. It is actually growing in popularity and there are architecture firms all over the world cashing in on the benefits. They call these “Quick Houses” and they can be two-stories at 2000 square feet with large glass windows and skylights. Such a structure is built by using 5 storage buildings, which provides the owner with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Theprice range can be anywhere between ,000 and $ 160,000 depending on how much space the owner needs. This actually comes out to be around $ 100 or less per square foot.

The price is actually the same if not less than an actual home built from scratch. The steel building is an existing structure that can be built upon by adding insulation if needed, moquette tachée, dommage the floors, adding drywall to the walls and actually creating rooms out of multiple buildings being sealed together. Bathrooms can be installed as well as heating and cooling systems. The possibilities seem to be endless, so the imagination can go a long way when turning to steel building into a home.

Here is an easy grilled chicken breast recipe. Skinless, boneless chicken marinated breast in italian dressing for at least 3 hours, preferably over night. Grill on the George Foreman Grill for 4 to 5 minutes. The color of cooked chicken is not a sign of its safety to eat. Use a food thermometer to determine thatchicken has reached a safe minimum internal temperature of 165° F throughout.

The Ronco Rotisserie Grill is great for cooking beef, chicken and pork roasts. It is known for the slogans “set it and forget it”.

With the Jack LaLanne’s Power Juicer you can create very tasty healthy juices. What will be your favorite grapefruit delight, papaya, kiwi magic or surprise the very simple orange juice?

The GT Express 101 can cook meals in just 7 minutes. The GT Xpress 101 has no stick cooking chambers both top and bottom so no need for turning. Cool meals, snacks, desserts and delicious low carb food in less time.
